From the CEO’s Desk

Welcome to the March edition of A Global View for 2016.

In this issue we look at the changes to container weight verification, an overview of our latest software solution, the benefits of our Hosted Solution, Compliance and more.

Earlier this year, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) adopted amendments to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention regarding a mandatory container gross weight verification. What does this mean for exporters? We look into the details in this edition.

Rest assured, TridentGLOBAL is collaborating with the relevant parties to ensure our system is compliant for our customers across the globe.

The past few months has seen some exciting new developments at TridentGLOBAL with additional CustomerCare and development staff coming on board.

TridentGLOBAL also attended the Global Grains conference in Singapore earlier this month to learn valuable insights and future trends, and meeting experts in the agribusiness field.

We also released our Corporate Brochure, which is available on our new website. We recommend you check them both out!

I look forward to working with you to support your company’s global growth as you strive to capitalise on new and exciting opportunities in 2016.

Export Insights

What do the new Container Weight Verification changes mean for exporters?

The Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) amendments were passed in January and will come into effect on July 1, 2016. So with only a few months before they take effect, now is the time for anyone involved in the container supply chain to consider how they will be affected and what they need to do to be ready for the mandatory verification of container weights. The clock is ticking.

Under the SOLAS amendments, there are two permissible methods for weighing:

1. The container can be weighed after it has been packed.

2. All the cargo and contents of the container are weighed and then added to the tare weight of the container as indicated on the door end of the container.

If you are an Australian exporter you’re in luck. We have the PRA – 1-Stop’s electronic document – that is used at all the container terminals to validate export containers. If you send a PRA, from July you MUST include the verified weight, the details of how it was verified, and who verified it. If the PRA doesn’t have that info, it will be rejected.

Exporters in the United States are already mandated to compulsory weighing of all export containers. This new regulation is merely the next logical step towards transparency in the supply chain and reduction in operational risks.

Global Grain Asia has established itself as the market leader for both timely content and excellent networking opportunities.

The event, held in Singapore on March 1 – 3 connects the global community for grains and oilseeds with the largest demand market.

The conference brought expert speakers together to focus on the region’s consumption trends and trading opportunities in the context of global production outlooks and macroeconomic conditions.

Producers and suppliers continue to recognise the importance of the region and as end-users are increasingly educated on quality and origins competition for market share keeps prices low. Government policy, weather and logistics also continue to impact the grains and oilseeds markets.

China’s demand may be stuttering and worrying signs have been seen in their economy this year, but will this see a dramatic knock on effect to other Asian countries or will we see slow growth replaced by slower decline.

These key topics and more will be discussed at the event and TridentGLOBAL will be in attendance
